Wedding Planning Tips, Your Event Career
7 Easy Ways to Boost Your Salary as a Wedding Planner
The wedding industry is worth billions – and although you’re not quite there yet, you can still make a pretty penny as a certified wedding planner. Clients depend on you to make the most important day of their life also the most flawless. That means your services are worth a lot.
So what can you do to make your wedding business more profitable? Follow along with QC’s guide to boosting your wedding planning salary!
1. Bundles, bundles, bundles!
Every wedding planner should have package plans in place – this provides every client with a unique selection of services based on their wants and needs. And plus, bundling multiple services gives your clients more incentive to hire you for all of their wedding needs!
Don’t be afraid to advertise your bundles and packages. Most clients want to know that they are hiring someone who has the wedding planning skills to handle anything they’ll need for the big day. Be sure to let them know what you can provide for them, and that they might be entitled to a discount by bundling! Even if you offer small discounts with a package deal, you’re still being hired for more than one service.
This is possibly the easiest way to entice clients to use more of your professional wedding services!
2. Ride the wedding wave
Always remember to ask if your clients would like a planner for pre-wedding celebrations. Most bridal parties plan stag and does, engagement parties, and bachelor and bachelorette celebrations, and this is the perfect opportunity for you to find some extra work!
This is an area where you can offer package deals, including engagement party planning and any other events that your clients are looking forward to. If your client already trusts you to plan their wedding, why wouldn’t they want your expertise when it comes to planning other bridal events?
3. Branch out to new vendors
Sticking to your most trusted vendors is important, but you also want to network as much as possible to get your brand out there. If you network with new vendors, they’re more likely to refer you to their own clients. Plus, you might find a vendor that provides better services than the ones you’re currently using.
Venture out with caution, though. The last thing you want to do is give a new vendor the benefit of the doubt and end up regretting it on your client’s big day! Reach out to other event planners, or ask to speak to current clients about a vendor’s services. You want to be sure that they are tried and true before you contract them for a wedding.
4. Offer a partnership
Partnering up with local vendors can be a huge benefit to both of your businesses. It will give you more clients, and they’ll be paying the same price for both of your services (unless you want to offer deals!). If you have a good business relationship with a reliable vendor, consider reaching out to them about becoming business partners.
It can be as simple as referring clients to each other, or literally teaming up as a power duo. Either way, you’ll be able to give your clients access to more than one great wedding service!
5. Expand your turf
We all know that growing your business takes time, but when it happens it can make your brand BOOM. Don’t be afraid to expand your wedding planning services to new areas if you have the resources. If you have the opportunity (and finances) to set up a second shop the next town over, why not continue to grow your business?
Although adding new offices and working in different areas requires a lot of business planning and organization, it can benefit your brand in ways you never dreamed. Growing your business is the key to earning a better salary, and you have to start somewhere!
6. Mark the anniversary
Keeping in touch with your wedding planning clients is extremely important for your business. Not only do you want them to send referrals your way, you can also build a great business relationship with your customers.
Send out thank-you notes to your clients after their wedding, and stay in touch. You’ll want to congratulate them on their one-year!
And you never know, they may want you to throw the anniversary party…
7. Learn something new
Even though you’re a trained wedding planner, there will always be changing trends and styles that make your career exciting. It’s super important for you to keep up with the ever-evolving industry, and to stay sharp!
Your first training course is only a glimpse of what the wedding industry has to offer. There is so much potential for you to learn and connect with new ideas. Head out to conferences and tradeshows to meet other planners and vendors, and add to your skills by taking new courses. You can easily offer your clients extra services, like event styling and destination wedding planning, to raise your salary!
For any professional, having the practical skills and know-how is essential to making your business more profitable!
