Tell us a little bit about yourself!
I was born and raised in California near San Francisco and currently live in San Ramon Ca. I have been married for seventeen years and have a son who is eleven. I love to travel and explore new places. I’m addicted to coffee, shoes and, everything that has to do with decorating! I started my business, Savvy Chic Events, in 2011 after completing my Event and Wedding Planning course in 2010.
You were in the medical field for several years. What made you decide to switch careers and go into event and wedding planning?
Although I loved working in the medical field as a surgical coordinator, I have always had a deep passion for event coordination and decorating events since I was young. My very first job was at a party store called Party America.
What was the hardest part about starting your new career? Do you have any regrets?
I think the hardest thing was getting myself out there at first and networking with others to build relationships. But now, after being in the industry since 2011, I’m very comfortable with meeting and mingling with new people. I have no regrets! I feel that everything happens for a reason, when the time is right!
You also do interior decorating! How is it similar or different than event management?
Even though interior decorating and event decorating bring in separate types of clients, it’s a passion for me to be able to help clients design a space for their special needs. I love creating the atmosphere that they envision. I would love to add on interior design as an alternative service within my business.
What’s your favorite type of event to plan? What’s your favorite part?
It’s hard to choose as they are equally special, but I have enjoyed planning many first birthdays and love designing different, adorable, themed dessert stations.
What is your biggest career highlight so far?
I have been able to meet a lot of talented people and help with planning fundraising events for great causes. It’s a wonderful feeling to be a part of an event that helps change people’s lives.
How has QC prepared you for the event decor and event planning industry?
QC has given me the knowledge to understand everything it takes to make a successful event happen and how to take the first steps in approaching the event industry.
What are you looking forward to in 2019?
I am looking forward to building more relationships in a networking group that I have started for event professionals to come together. And to incorporating interior design into my business in the future!
